Aurora can generate five-day global air pollution forecasts including levels of nitrogen dioxide, ozone, and particulate matter in under a minute. This speed is approximately 5,000 times faster than traditional models like the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS). Despite this rapid processing, Aurora maintains high accuracy, outperforming CAMS on 74% of air quality targets .

The model's architecture, a 3D win Transformer with Perceiver-based encoders and decoders, enables it to handle complex atmospheric data and produce forecasts at a spatial resolution of 0.4°, approximately 44 kilometers. This capability allows for detailed predictions of air pollution levels, even in regions with significant anthropogenic emissions 

 Weather Forecasting Capabilities

Beyond air quality, Aurora excels in weather forecasting. It can produce ten-day global weather forecasts in less than a minute, surpassing traditional models in both speed and accuracy. In tests, Aurora outperformed the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts' model on over 90% of variables . Its high spatial resolution allows for detailed predictions, capturing weather changes approximately every six miles
